About
Built in 2010, the Gotham Hotel on 46th Street shares a historic bond with New York City that rivals those of the city’s oldest hotels. Named in homage to the Gotham Book Mart, the hotel was constructed at the landmark bookstore’s final location when it closed after over 85 years as a staple of the New York City literary scene.
The Gotham Book Mart was an independent family-owned bookstore featuring rarities, underground/banned books, titles from up-and-coming writers, and works by prominent authors and novelists. A haven for literary luminaries and cultural icons (as well as the site where the James Joyce Society was founded in 1947), the Gotham Book Mart gained a reputation for its famous guests, unique service and signage.
As historic hotels in New York City go, the Gotham Hotel is not your average one. With its sleek, slender frame and uniquely tapered facade towering over 26 stories, the Gotham Hotel is a wholly modern establishment imbued with the values and service that made the old Gotham Book Mart a New York City icon.
Like its namesake, the Gotham Hotel is independent and family-owned with a focus on service and a true boutique hospitality. As a nod to its predecessor, the Gotham Hotel rooms and suites include titles from the old Gotham Book Mart. Pick up one of the books in your room and thumb through its pages for a glimpse of the Gotham story.
From the unmistakable tall, skinny structure to the distinctive hotel rooms with balconies to its historic roots as an iconic literary institution, the Gotham Hotel on 46th Street is one of New York City’s truly unique boutique hotels. Positioned perfectly in a vibrant yet residential neighborhood in the heart of New York City (Midtown East), The Gotham Hotel is a 67-room boutique hotel, independently owned and family-operated with sleek and modern accommodations, amenities, and service.
Featuring spacious suites and rooms with private balconies (as well as large communal terraces), ours is a rarity among NYC boutique hotels – Bold, contemporary and luxurious. The Gotham Hotel exudes New York City charm from the custom cityscape murals by New York artist Piero Manrique adorning each of its 25 floors to the towering street views overlooking Midtown East streets.
